Since 1988, the Wood Museum has stood in the heart of the "world of wood" area of Murau in St. Ruprecht ob Murau. It's a remarkable place for learning all about this fascinating raw material, with facilities spanning over 10,000 m² both indoors and outdoors. Visitors to this authentic, interactive world of wooden adventure will soon discover that a museum need be anything but boring!
The "green gold" has been part of our lives since time immemorial. The Wood Museum demonstrates this in a series of traditional workshops (joiner, cartwright, cooper…), plus some unique exhibits such as a lumberjack cabin and age-old agricultural tools, or curiosities such as the "Brockenlotter". These permanent exhibition spaces are constantly being updated and varied. Every year, the Museum presents special new exhibitions on wood/forest themes, thus remaining fresh and interesting.
