Safety & rules on mountain bike tours

During your holiday in the warmer seasons, the Murau-Kreischberg region also offers a few mountain biking tours. In addition to hiking, many a peak can be conquered by bike. To make sure your tour proceeds accident-free, a number of safety rules must be followed. Then you can be free to enjoy the panoramic views and fresh air of your mountain tour.

Safety tips for mountain bikers

Walkers and hikers always take precedence. Friendly and considerate interaction with pedestrians is essential. If you come across people walking, it is important to alert them to your presence by ringing your bell. Please pass by them slowly. You must not ride your mountain bike on footpaths or hiking trails.

Nature in the Murau-Kreischberg region is beautiful and virtually untouched. So that it can stay that way, we kindly ask holidaymakers to avoid dropping litter and making unnecessary noise. In order not to disturb the animals, mountain bike routes may only be traversed during the day:

  • From 1 June to 15 September from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm
  • From 16 September to 31 October from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

Cycle only on authorised, marked paths and never go off track. Please obey the road traffic regulations on logging roads!

Just like driving, you should always cycle carefully and with all due attention. Meaning: keep your speed in check at all times and always be ready to brake. On logging roads, you should expect to encounter timber and vehicles on the road. You may also encounter hikers and other mountain bikers.

If you come across grazing animals, please reduce your speed to walking pace in order to prevent them from reacting badly. Please always close the pasture gates!

Accurate self-evaluation is essential in any sport! Do not under any circumstances overexert yourself in terms of technique or fitness. This will also help you prevent accidents.

Must-have equipment

Never ride without the proper protective equipment. A helmet is mandatory on your mountain bike tour! Protectors, gloves and back protection are recommended. Safety comes first!

Before the tour, check your mountain bike to ensure that it is working properly. A repair kit for emergencies should remain in your backpack at all times. A first-aid kit for small accidents is equally important.
