Gondola operation in summer

In winter, it goes without saying that winter sports enthusiasts should get a ride up the mountain on the gondola lift. In the Murau-Kreischberg region, it's also possible for sportspeople visiting in summer to use the gondola and thus avoid the initial steep ascent.

Advantages of the gondola lift

Starting from the gondola mountain station, you have the opportunity to enjoy leisurely walks and easy hikes on flat alpine meadows or complete a slight climb to one of the nearby peaks. Especially when you want to hike with the whole family in summer, the gondola is a nice and easy option to get up the mountain. The starting point of St. Lorenzen/the train station is also easily accessible by car or train.

Hike on the Kreischberg

If you don't feel like taking the gondola lift, we recommend a hike up the Kreischberg. The route starts in the community of St. Georgen. Hike along logging roads and across meadows on the Kreischberg, previously a venue for winter sports world championships. The full climb encompasses 1,125 m and there are a few steep ascents right at the beginning. However, you are rewarded with a stunning view from 1,981 m, or you can even keep going to the Rosenkranz at 2,118 m. Several mountain huts dotted along the way are appealing places to stop for some refreshment or a rest or simply to marvel at the panorama of the Niedere Tauern and the Nockberge mountains. As mentioned, the ascent and descent is a lot more comfortable on the gondola lift if the service is there, why not make the most of it!

Spaß am Kreischberg für Kinder und Junggebliebene

For families, a detour to Dinowald is well worth it, because the little ones will have great fun discovering the dinosaur-figures in the forest. The Disc Golf Park with taster course (four holes) and nine holes is situated right by the mountain station for the gondola lift and is a great experience for the whole family! Disc Golf is played with a frisbee and the goal is to reach the metal hoop with the least "puts". You can use the Disc Golf Park at the Kreischberg free of charge with a valid lift ticket. You will get the frisbees and a score card at the mountain terminal of the gondola.

A further highlight for action seekers is a ride with the Offroad Monster Scooters. You can rent the scooter with fat tyres at Intersport Pintar at the valley terminal of the gondola. Take the gondola up the mountain as far as the middle station and take the scooter on a 5 km trail back down to the valley. Children between 10 and 12 years must be accompanied by an adult, teenagers 13 years and above can take their own scooter.
