Cycling holiday in the Murau-Kreischberg region

Geographically, the Murau-Kreischberg region lies between the Niedere Tauern and the Nockberge mountain ranges and is remarkable for the special kind of natural experience it offers. Spring marks the start of cycling season, as nature slowly begins to awaken from its wintry slumber. In summer, especially on hot days, you have the chance to head up into the mountains, as it's always a few degrees cooler there than in the valley. Nature lovers and sports enthusiasts tend to flock to the region particularly in autumn. A variety of activities lies in store, with no day like another.

Variety of cycling tours for all

The region offers a variety of cycling routes, from family-friendly cycling trails to very demanding tours. Take the opportunity to pedal along the River Mur or perhaps along shady forest paths and through idyllic valleys. The standardised and easy-to-understand signposting system enables you to maintain your bearings quite easily. Stop for refreshment at one of the restaurants and taverns dotted along the routes, get to know different excursion destinations and learn a thing or two about the region as you ride.

The Murtalbahn steam railway

The Murtalbahn steam railway is an inimitable experience for cyclists. It is a small narrow-gauge track running between Unzmarkt and Tamsweg, and you can get on in Murau or St. Lorenzen am Kreischberg, disembark in Tamsweg and then cycle leisurely back by bike. Take your bikes with you free of charge on the train.

Cycling holiday with the whole family

Of course, the region boasts all the necessary infrastructure for your cycling holiday. Bike service points will help you with problems of any size. At the bike hire points, you can rent out a bike for one afternoon, for example. Wander through the beautiful old town of Murau in the morning, enjoy the sunshine as you relax at a restaurant terrace, and then head out on a cycling tour in the afternoon. Or take a cycling tour in the morning with your family and cool off in the afternoon at one of the region's many swimming lakes or pools. The family summer programme offers numerous adventures for children of all ages. A thrilling programme combined with your cycling holiday to make you want to come back for more!

Cycling holiday for active holidaymakers

Naturally, the Murau-Kreischberg region has something up its sleeve for active holidaymakers too. For example, the Auerlingsee route, an extremely challenging bike tour with two mountain classifications. You will be rewarded by gorgeous views from the Radstädter Tauern to the Seckauer Tauern mountain ranges. Another option is the Rineggrunde route, which is 25 km, and has an altitude difference of 590 m. So you see: there are no obstacles to a fantastic cycling holiday in the region. Its diverse repertoire will easily convince you to spend your next adventure holiday in Styria!
