Family experiences on holiday
Experiences especially for children
Countless children's playgrounds are available to families especially with young tots. The "Generations-playground" in Murau's town park deserves a special mention for its trampoline, several sandboxes, swings, water play features and climbing course. A picnic in the country is always an experience for the whole family!
TIP: Picnic on the Kreischberg! Take the gondola lift to the top – much easier, particularly when you have young children in tow. Once up on the Kreischberg, it's well worth making a detour to DinosaurForest or perhaps having a go at the Disc Golf Park right next to the mountain station.
A host of fascinating facts
The educational animal trail welcomes families in Murau, heading towards the Frauenalpe. It is an interesting walk that tells you all sorts of things about the region's animal kingdom. On the educational forest trail, you will encounter all the local tree species and find out what they are used for. The Stolzalpe Health and Science Museum ("Gesundheitswerkstätte") is a unique museum, where children can learn how the body works.
TIP: Test out medical devices for yourself. Special children’s tours are offered in the summer.
Summer for the whole family
The Letters Rally thrills children up to the age of 15 or so, and even some adults! Collect the treasure map from the Murau-Kreischberg tourist office, and follow the clues through the town of Murau to secret spots with letters. Once you've completed the tour, there’s a small prize waiting for you at the end! About Murau, incidentally: wander through the beautiful old town at any time of year. A trip on the steam railway is a delight for the whole family too. The Detective Trail in St. Georgen am Kreischberg is an amusing activity for the kids, entailing a fun stamp book, colourful little houses and a stamp with letters.
Winter for the whole family
Trendy ski resort in the Murtal, the Kreischberg, is always a magnet in winter. Skiers, snowboarders and freestylers will be in seventh heaven. It goes without saying that you can expect ski rental points and a ski school on site! The local recreation area of the Frauenalpe is also a popular destination, offering gentle winter tourism – why not try a snowshoe hike? The Christmas period is forever a sparkling affair, while everything turns into a riot of colour at Fasching (carnival).
Visit the "world of wood" of Murau! Thanks to a number of "world of wood" tours, it has been possible to incorporate over 90 "world of wood" stations in new thematic groupings. In particular, the Wood Museum brings together the entire history of wood under one roof. The nearby flour mill offers visitors the chance to watch grain being milled as it was some 200 years ago.
So you see: there's nothing standing in the way of a fabulous family break! There's certainly no shortage of relaxation, fun, excitement, and pure holiday pleasure to be had in the Murau-Kreischberg region!
