RANTEN   Only 9 km away from Murau, in the middle of the beautiful Ranten valley, you will meet the village Ranten. Ranten is the birth place of Martin Zeiler (1589 – 1661), who was one of the first travel journalists of the world. He wrote the first travel guide (Fidus Achates), and to honour his activities Ranten established a Martin Zeiler garden which is located at the village square. Expanded walking ways along the Ranten brooks, hiking through dark green forests, too crystal clear mountain lakes and summits. Riding holidays in the middle of green meadows, fishing in the Rottenmanner lake, biking and much more. These are holidays in the Ranten valley.  Ranten is one of the places which have an active protecting guard. Every year in the end of August there is a famous Hl. Bartholomäus celebration with Prangschützen, Ehrensalven, Fahnenschwingen and music.
