MURAU

Murau is a small middle aged town, which invites to a culture walk or a shopping tour. The traditional beer city is famous for the hospitality of the inhabitants.
In the winter the region offers the ski mountains Kreischberg & Frauenalpe. Trend and family ski mountains which are snow secure and for a rest the ski huts offer typical local food.

The castle "Murowe" was built in the 13th century and was an important tradecentre at the north-south-route.

Anna Neumann is called the mistress of Murau. She was a special woman who survived two witch trials and five husbands.

Since the 13th century the “Murauer Bürgergarde” is one of the most important ambassadors. Today the “Bürgergarde” with the companion “Samson” is known internationally. The performance in Moscow, Rome and London are legendary.

The exhibition “Holzzeit” made Murau to the wooden capital of Austria and to the centre of the styrian timber street. Murau shows amazing constructions made of wood from the middle age until today. Examples are the new tourist information office and the logistic centre of the brewery. The “Holzwelt Murau” combines the activities, projects and buildings of the “Holzregion Murau”.
